A Kingston woman is dead and another woman is seriously injured after a two-vehicle collision northwest of Belleville.

Ontario provincial police say a preliminary investigation reveals Dorthy Cunningham, 81, was driving on the wrong side of the road when she approached a hill on County Road 25 at about 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say another vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old Quinte West woman, swerved into the other lane to try to avoid the crash as Cunningham's vehicle crested the hill. Cunningham also turned abruptly into the other lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

Both women were extricated from their vehicles. Cunningham was airlifted to the Kingston General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Jennifer Neggers was transported to Campbellford Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to Kingston hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are continuing their investigation.
