The head of Ottawa's largest economic development agency announced Friday he will step down once a replacement is found.

Claude Haw is both president and CEO of the Ottawa Centre for Regional Innovation (OCRI).

He took the job in early 2009 for a three-year term.

Haw's time with OCRI has been marked by the demise of Nortel and slow progress on trying to diversify the region's technology sector.

He's also behind efforts to bring new companies to Ottawa from outside the region and develop new overseas markets in China and Europe.

OCRI has decided to refocus all of its attention on economic development and move out of things like a school breakfast program.

In the next few weeks, the City of Ottawa, which supplies a big part of OCRI's budget, will announce the next phase of its economic development strategy.

Haw told CTV Ottawa that the policy will be in synch with the new focus for OCRI.
