Fifty years ago, broadcasting in Canada's capital region changed forever when a man named Ernie Bushnell started a television station.
The station, known as CJOH, went to air at noon on March 12, 1961. It featured all kinds of programming including comedy hours, variety shows, and, of course, the nightly news.
Over the years, CJOH, now known as CTV Ottawa, scored many victories and weathered several challenges—including a fire that ravaged its Merivale Road studios last year.
Through it all, the station has sought to provide its viewers with outstanding journalism and high quality programming.
And today, CTV Ottawa is celebrating 50 years of serving you.
