Hate crime at Ottawa elementary school
Ottawa police are investigating what they describe as a hate crime at an Islamic elementary school in Vanier.
A series of anti-Muslim messages were found spray painted on the walls of the Ahlul- Bayt Islamic Education Centre on Barribeau Street about 7:40 Monday morning.
"ISIS go home" and "Die Bombers" among the messages spotted by neighbours living near the school.
Officials at the school covered the graffiti with tarp before most of the students arrived, and then kept the kids inside during recess while the walls were cleaned up.
The hate crime unit of the Ottawa police is handling the investigation. They say vandalism and graffiti are among the most common types of hate crime.
