Police say a suspect is at large after two people were shot in Gatineau early Thursday morning.
Gatineau Police had surrounded an apartment in the Hull sector of the city after reports of an armed man barricaded inside. Since then, they have provided an update saying the suspected gunman was not inside.
Police officers were initially called to the Mont-Bleu area around 1:30 Thursday morning after reports of gunfire near Philemon Wright School
Police say the shots were fired during a fight. Two men were taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries while one man fled into an apartment on Tasse Street.
The victims are both in their 20s from Ottawa. Police say they are not cooperating in the investigation and aren't ruling out the shooting was gang-related.
In total eight buildings were evacuated and 200 people were forced from their homes during the five-hour standoff.
Police have closed Tasse St & Daniel-Johnson Street to traffic.
Philemon Wright High School and Hadley Junior High are closed for the day.
The scene was cleared before noon and residents were allowed back to their homes.
Police say they believe the shooting was targeted and the public is not in danger.
