A 23-year-old man was found guilty of first-degree murder by an Ottawa jury Saturday morning for the 2006 deaths of his sister and her fianc.

According to reports, Hasibullah Sadiqi was convicted on both counts and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Sadiqi was accused of shooting his 20-year-old sister Khatera and 23-year-old Feroz Mangal, both of whom were sitting in a parked Honda outside the Elmvale Acres Plaza on Sept. 19, 2006.

Khatera was dead, while Mangal died in hospital 10 days later.

The couple was said to be living together prior to marriage, which fuelled suggestions that Sadiqi considered the crime necessary to restore honour to his family.
