Police in Charlottetown, P.E.I have called off the ground search for Trevor William Rankin, an Ottawa man who went missing there on Christmas Eve.

The major crimes unit activated provincial ground and water search teams earlier this week but the searches failed to find any leads.

The coast guard has been called in to help but efforts are being hampered by severe weather on the east coast.

Rankin, 38, is a program adviser at Natural Resources Canada who was in Charlottetown visiting family for the holidays. He disappeared after a night out with his nephew.

He was last seen exiting a taxi on Dorchester and Queen streets at about 2:30 a.m. He was wearing a dark blue button up shirt, blue jeans and a dark charcoal gray pea coat.

Rankin was also seen at a sportsbar at about 1 a.m.

His family is reeling from his disappearance.

"It's hard," said his brother Daniel Rankin. "We all miss him alot."

Police say he is about 5" 9' tall, about 160 lbs, clean shaven with short brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Charlottetown Police Service at 1-902-629-4172 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
