A grass fire broke out near the Ottawa airport Wednesday afternoon, blackening dozens of acres of land.

The blaze impacted a stretch of land in Lester and Mac street area near the Airport Parkway.

Fire crews said that flames were up to 15 feet in the air at the height of the blaze. The fire scorched between 60 to 100 acres of land.

The warm weather was a factor in the fire.

"Warm temperatures dried out the grass," said Don Smith from the Ottawa Fire Service.

Fire officials remind the public that a burn ban is in effect.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
