MONTREAL - Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has opened his first Canadian restaurant -- but it didn't go exactly as planned.

The Laurier Gordon Ramsay restaurant in Montreal had to be evacuated Wednesday, just hours after it opened its doors.

The sprinkler system malfunctioned, but the restaurant later said the situation was under control and there was very limited damaged.

The restaurant, a Montreal landmark once known as Rotisserie Laurier BBQ, also apologized "to all affected customers for the incident."

The 44-year-old Scottish-born Ramsay has won fame through a string of acclaimed restaurants, cookbooks and TV shows.

He's been called the bad boy of cooking, primarily because of his scorching profanity on his cooking shows.
