The Jagtar Gill murder case beings in Ottawa today after a delay in selecting jurors.
The seven-week trial revolves around the horrific murder of 43-year-old Jagtar Gill. The mother of three was found stabbed to death in her Barrhaven home on her 17th wedding anniversary in January 2014.
On trial for first degree murder is Jagtar's husband, Bhupinderpal Gill, as well as his neighbour and co-worker at OC Transpo, Gurpreet Ronald. Both have pleaded "not guilty."
The co-accused were arrested in April 2014 and have been in custody ever since. At the time of the arrest there were allegations Gill and Ronald were romantically involved.
Lawyers screened more than 400 potential jurors for this case before finally selecting five women and seven men to judge the innocence or guilt of the co-accused. Some of the potential jurors asked to be dismissed because they believed the details of the case would be too gory. Others worked at OC Transpo or knew too much about the case to be impartial.
Opening arguments begin Friday morning. CTV Ottawa's Joanne Schnurr is at the court and will have updates throughout the day.
