Gatineau police have added high tech tools to help them nab dangerous drivers on the city's streets.
Four new infrared rooftop cameras—known as "cruiser cameras"—will be used by Gatineau's police force. The devices scan license plates as cars go by, allowing police to catch more drivers who shouldn't be on the road.
They are also able to help track down stolen vehicles.
Gatineau is following the lead of several other cities across North America that already use the technology.
The cameras cost about $140, 000 for four vehicles.
Some drivers are angry at the cost, arguing that the money could be better spent on other initiatives.
