A 24-year-old Gatineau man is fighting for his life after being stabbed twice during an apparent home invasion early Saturday morning.

Police were called to an apartment at 112A Rue Eddy in Hull at 2:35 a.m. for a reported break and enter. They found the victim with head and chest wounds.

Two suspects were fighting with the man when the stabbing occurred, according to Gatineau police.

The suspects fled in a vehicle. No arrests have been made.

The victim underwent emergency surgery at the Hull Hospital to stop the bleeding from his wounds. He remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Gatineau police major crime unit has taken over the investigation.
