Ottawa police are investigating after two brothers from Gatineau were killed in a head-on collision involving an SUV and a car in Ottawa's south end.
Emergency workers responded to the collision on Lester Road, west of Albion Road, at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday.
Police say it appears the car fishtailed on ice before it was struck by an oncoming SUV that rammed into the passenger side of the vehicle.
The 25-year-old male passenger of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although paramedics treated the 31-year-old male driver of the car for life-threatening injuries, he died shortly after being rushed to hospital.
The names of the victims will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
Paramedics also treated a married couple who were travelling in the SUV at the time of the incident.
A 47-year-old female was treated for chest and lower leg injuries. A 50-year-old male was treated for minor chest injuries. Both are in stable condition in hospital.
Police closed Lester and Albion roads for several hours during the morning commute while they investigated. The roads reopened just before midday.
