Employees with GardaWorld in Ottawa have walked-off the job as part of ongoing labour disputes.

According to GardaWorld, 52 per cent of employees signed a petition Thursday against strike action. Despite the support, employees walked-off the job Thursday at 3:45 p.m.

GardaWorld says it intends to provide service to all customers in the Ottawa area through its Gatineau operations.

"In spite of good faith negotiations and an offer that GardaWorld believes is fair and competitive in today’s economic climate, the union representing our employees in Ottawa has called for a strike without conducting a vote on the offer by its members to decide on the merits of the offer," says Joe Gavaghan, a media relations officer with GardaWorld.

GardaWorld is a privately owned security company that provides cash services to retail stores, bank machines, among other duties.

It's unclear how long the job action will last. About 130 employees work for GardaWorld in Ottawa.
