A funeral will be held Tuesday for a Petawawa-based medic killed in Afghanistan more than one week ago.

Master Cpl. Kristal Giesebrecht was killed when her vehicle hit a roadside bomb near Kandahar City on June 26. Pte. Andrew Miller, another medic based at CFB Petawawa, was also killed in the blast.

Giesebrecht was on her second tour of duty in Afghanistan. She is the first female medic to be killed.

A ceremony to honour Giesebrecht will take place at CFB Petawawa, Building Y101 (1 RCR Building) at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Giesebrecht leaves behind a husband and son.

Her family is asking that donations be made to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario or the Children's Health Foundation in London, Ont. Giesebrecht was 34 years old.
