A large crowd of family and friends gathered at a funeral service Friday to remember a three-year-old boy who was killed in a house fire in a village east of Ottawa last week.

Damien Seguin died of smoke inhalation after he ran back into his burning home in Fournier, Ont. on Aug. 27.

The funeral was held at St. Bernard Church in Alfred.

Police said the family's dog was found lying near the toddler, whose body was discovered in a bedroom on the second floor.

Investigators now say the fire was caused by a faulty night light that was plugged in on the second floor. The family was also told that the smoke detector in their home was not working.

Damien's twin brother Miguel managed to escape the flames, along with their father's girlfriend, Alexandra Goyer, who was babysitting the pair at the time of the incident.
