A heartbroken Ottawa family had the painful task Monday of saying goodbye to their only child.

Funeral services were held for Jeremy Audette, 2, who drowned last Wednesday in a backyard pool in Orleans, east of Ottawa.

His grief-stricken parents, Melanie and Alain Audette, were joined by family and friends for a celebration of Jeremy's life at Ste. Marie Church on Innes Road.

The toddler was discovered face down in a pool during a gathering of caregivers and children on July 28.

Ottawa police are still investigating possible charges.

As many as 22 children were in the Orleans home at the time of the drowning.
