The family, friends and teachers of the Smiths Falls teen who died tragically last week gathered to remember his young life at his funeral Tuesday afternoon.

Josiah Grant, 18, died from a fatal brain injury he sustained after missing the landing pad while high jumping at a track and field practice at Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute last week.

His funeral was held at the high school where he was set to graduate from in June.

Hundreds of mourners packed the gymnasium to pay tribute to Grant. Many talked about his zest for life despite having been born with Cystic Fibrosis.

"He never let CF slow him down," said friend Tim Loten. "Life was throwing punches at him and Jo would just throw one back."

Grant's father thanked his classmates for the outpouring of support after his son's death.

"Your stories and the tears that were shown by all of you….you lifted us up," he said.
