Funeral announced for Mountie from Ottawa

Just a week after his body was found in Haiti, Ottawa police announced the funeral arrangements for RCMP Chief Supt. Doug Coates. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

A service will take place inside Notre Dame Basilica, 385 Sussex Dr. at 1 p.m. There will be only limited seating available for the public.

Visitation will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Tuesday at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave.

Coates, a veteran of several Haitian peacekeeping missions, was on duty for his latest tour when he died in the earthquake of Jan. 12.
