Four people have been rescued by police after their hot air balloon crashed in a wooded area last night.

Police say the balloon was forced down by high winds in Gatineau Park near Luskville around 9 o’clock Sunday night.

Police launched the rescue effort shortly after the crash but high water levels in the area caused its suspension early Monday morning.

The rescue operation resumed at first light and the foursome was rescued just shy of 8 in the morning .  The group had made a fire while waiting for rescue.

The balloon is owned by the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival.
