CORNWALL, Ont. - Four people have been arrested after an alleged case of human smuggling in the eastern Ontario community of Cornwall.

The Cornwall Regional Task Force says the suspects, all over 50, were trying to transport three foreign nationals onto Cornwall Island before smuggling them into the United States.

Police say two middle-aged women from Slovakia and a middle-aged Polish man had travelled to Cornwall from the Toronto area.

The foreigners are being interviewed by the Canadian border agency.

The reason behind the smuggling isn't being released, but RCMP say this isn't a prostitution case.

Police won't release the suspects' names until conspiracy charges have been laid, but they say two of the alleged smugglers are from the Toronto area, while the other pair are from Cornwall and Akwesasne.
