Police in western Quebec made three unique impaired driving arrests in a matter of hours overnight Friday, including one of a former university football star.
MRC des Collines spokesperson Martin Fournel said they made their third arrest of the night at 4:35 a.m. Saturday when a 29-year-old man was pulled over in Gatineau.
Fournel said they had to use pepper spray to get the man to the police station, where he was charged with assaulting an officer and failing to provide a breath sample along with the impaired driving charge.
Saturday morning the man refused to sign his release papers and will spend the rest of the weekend in a Hull prison before his court appearance Monday.
Fournel said that man is Nicolas Bisaillon, a former star with the Laval Rouge et Or who received an absolute discharge for similar charges in the past.
The former wide receiver's license was also suspended for 90 days and his car seized for 30 days.
Police said the first arrest happened around 8:42 p.m. Friday when a Val-des-Monts man went off the road in Chelsea.
When police arrived Fournel said they found the 35-year-old drunk, with a small amount of cannabis and hashish as well.
That man failed the breathalyzer and will appear in court April 19, with his license suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.
The second man told police he was going to Val-des-Monts to get some friends who were unfit to drive, but it turned out the 21-year-old was also drunk.
His license was also suspended 90 days and car impounded, with a court appearance scheduled for April 20.
