Cornwall's former police chief is being questioned this week at the public inquiry looking into the handling of an alleged pedophile ring in the area.

Claude Shaver, who oversaw several crucial investigations of alleged systemic sexual abuse during his 10 years as Cornwall's police chief, travelled from his home in Florida to appear at the inquiry on Monday.

Shaver is expected to be questioned Tuesday about what he knew about David Silmser and a $32,000 settlement he was paid to withdraw charges against a local priest and probation officer.
