Booking a winter getaway is going to cost a bit more this year.
There are several factors, new baggage fees imposed by airlines, the low Canadian Dollar, and the Ontario Government is increasing the aviation fuel tax.
The province is phasing-in an additional four-cents-per-litre on the aviation fuel tax by 2017. That's a jump of nearly 150 percent.
The National Airlines Council of Canada says the province stands to lose more than it will gain from this tax increase. It says every year, three million people from Ontario drive to U.S. airports for cheaper flights.
The airport in Ogdensburg, N.Y., an hour south of Ottawa, is currently expanding to attract more Ottawa-area passengers.
