Ottawa police are investigating what they are calling a strange and complicated case of road rage that has left five people with injuries.
The incident began in the Orleans area around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night at Innes Rd. and Tenth Line.
Police say seven friends divided in two cars were at a stoplight.
That's when four males in their 20s, in a third vehicle described as a four-door silver Honda, allegedly pulled up and challenged them.
Police say the people in all three cars then engaged in aggressive driving on Highway 174 all the way to Montreal Rd., where they exited onto Shefford Rd.
According to police, the men in the silver Honda then passed the other two vehicles, turned around and drove at them, lightly hitting one of the vehicles head on.
Occupants from all three cars then got out and started physically fighting, using batons, pipes, and bats.
Police say people in another vehicle, a burgundy SUV, also turned up at the scene, blocked the road and became involved in the fight.
Five males and one female sustained minor injuries. They are all in their twenties. Three of them were treated in hospital.
All four vehicles involved were able to be driven away from the scene despite some damage.
Police are continuing the investigation and asking anyone with information to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext. 3566.
