Students and staff are reported safe after  fire ripped through the Ontario Hockey Academy in Cornwall Thursday evening.  The bricks survived but the interior of the private hockey school on Vincent Massey Drive suffered extensive damage.

According to a report in Cornwall Newswatch, fire chief Pierre Voisine says it appears the fire started in one of the dorm rooms.

Fire crews were called in just after 6:30.  By 8:30 replacements had been called in from South Stormont.  At midnight fire crews were still on scene dousing the hot spots.

About 90 student athletes at the school were in their final week of classes.  All made it out safely, along with ten staff members.  The students, reportedly from Europe,   were being housed at a nearby hotel for the night.

There was no word on what started the blaze.
