Ottawa Fire Investigators are searching for the cause of a fire at a Farm Boy grocery store under construction in west Ottawa.

Forty-seven firefighters and 17 fire trucks were called to the Britannia Plaza on Richmond Road at 6:35 Monday night.

They say the fire started outside the grocery store and had spread up a wall and into the roof structure by the time firefighters arrived.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

Two nearby businesses, the Chandlery and a Quickie store took water damage.

Total damage is estimated at $200,000.

The cause is under investigation.
