A long-time public servant was remembered at his funeral at the Christ Church Cathedral in Ottawa Thursday.

Arthur Kroeger, who was regarded as one of Canada's top bureaucrats, passed away last week after a long battle with cancer.

Kroeger was an influential member of the public service, serving as deputy minister in six federal departments between 1975 and his 1992 retirement.

He was a Rhodes Scholar, an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Chancellor of Carleton University.

In 1999, the university created the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs to honour the example Kroeger set while working in public office.

The school will continue to honour Kroeger by creating a scholarship fund in his name.

Kroeger died with his family by his side at Elisabeth-Bruyere Health Centre in Ottawa May 9.
