The 17th annual Bell Capital Cup will wrap up Saturday night.

Since kicking off on Tuesday roughly 600 games have been played across the region.

It was a close match today as the West Carleton Warriors took on the Aylmer Gladiators during the Minor B Championship game.

In the end the Gladiators came away with a 2-1 overtime win.

A moment 10-year-old Lucas Jolicoeur said he will not forget.

“I played so hard at the game and then I felt like, I just wasn’t expecting it, and then I just got a big trophy and I just was like yah! That was my best time,” Jolicoeur said.

This year, there were 19 divisions and 262 teams that played in the BCC tournament. Many more than Ottawa Senators’ defencemen Mark Borowiecki remembers from his time playing 17 years ago.

“I was actually part of the first ever Bell Capital Cup… I always had kind of aspirations of it being a bigger tournament, but back then it kinda started out as a smaller tournament, kind of more grassroots and obviously it’s really taken off in the past few years and it’s cool to see,” Borowiecki said.

Since then, thousands of teams and more than 11 countries have played in the tournament.

It has also been 17 years of sharing pins – a popular tradition at the tournament.

“You get pins from your team and if the teams from the other countries have pins you trade them,” said

Trading pins is just one of the many memories being created at the BCC.

“It’s fun to be with all your buds, just scream, have fun and cheer,” said Jolicoeur.
