TORONTO - Ontario and Quebec are calling on the federal government to help the struggling manufacturing and forestry sectors.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says those industries are being hit hard by the rising Canadian dollar, global competition and a weakened American economy.

He says in a release that Ottawa should join Ontario and invest in the sectors.

Quebec Premier Jean Charest says both provinces can't afford to wait until the federal budget for help.

He says the federal government could help the provinces invest in green technologies which would create jobs in the future.

Canada's premiers are meeting today in Vancouver while Parliament also resumes today.
