Emotions were running high at the Ottawa Airport Friday after a refugee family was put on a plane and deported to Trinidad.

Vashti Maharaj was forced to say goodbye to her husband, daughter and grandchild who were transported.

There was an outpouring of support from the community in Kemptville, where the family lived for four years.

The Federal Government has tightened the rules on who can claim refugee status in Canada.

Maharaj is scheduled to be deported next, once all paperwork is completed.
