HUNTSVILLE, Ont. - A father and son have drowned after the son's canoe capsized while he was fishing on a lake near Huntsville.

Police say 50-year-old Janusz Bielawski was standing on the shore when he spotted his son's flipped canoe on Slocombe Lake Friday afternoon.

The father noticed his 24-year-old son, Thomas Bielawski, struggling in the water and jumped in to rescue him.

Fire and ambulance arrived on the scene around 1:30 p.m. and both men were under the water.

Police say an undercover search and recovery unit found the bodies five metres under water and 22 metres from the shore.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket, but one was in the canoe at the time.
