Friends and family of Marc Nelson attended his funeral today. Nelson was a local musician, a husband and father of two young children.

Nelson's funeral coincided with a National Day of Mourning for workers who are killed on the job. The well-known musician died in a construction accident nearly one week ago.

Last night, dozens of friends and family members gathered in a west Ottawa bar to celebrate his life. Many who had once shared the stage with Nelson performed songs as a tribute to him at the Crazy Horse in Kanata.

Nelson died on April 21 after he was hit by debris while working on the Bank of Canada building at Bank and Sparks streets. He was married with two children.

His wife Ryanne says the support her family has received has been “truly unbelievable, it’s heartwarming and very comforting.”

Donations from tonight's event will be used towards his children's education through the Jack and Evelyn Nelson education fund.
