A former clerk of the Privy Council who wrote a report that led to the new amalgamated City of Ottawa has died.

Glen Shortliffe passed away this week at the age of 73. He spent most of his career working in the public service -- beginning in the foreign service in 1962.

Shortliffe was the special advisor to the Government of Ontario when he prepared a report that led to the amalgamation of the City of Ottawa in 2000. He also served as chair of Hydro Ottawa.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.
