Highway 17 at Cobden was expected to remain closed for several hours Sunday after an afternoon collision involving four vehicles that left two people dead.
A westbound Cadillac SUV crossed the centre lane and struck an eastbound Chevrolet Suburban at about 1:40 p.m. near Eldon Road, south of Pembroke.
The male driver of the Cadillac was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was airlifted to the Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus, where she died from her injuries.
The man driving the Suburban was taken to Renfrew Victoria Hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
The highway is closed between Turcotte and Mountain roads.
