It's one of the most dramatic finishes in baseball – a walk-off grand slam to win it in extra innings.

Unfortunately for the Ottawa Fat Cats, that's how they lost Game 1 of the Intercounty Baseball League finals Saturday night in Brantford.

Brantford Red Sox centrefielder Al Stephens blasted out his only hit of the game with two outs in the eleventh inning off Ottawa's Darren Desclouds, who walked three in the inning, to win it 4-0.

Stefan Strecker pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief to earn the win for Brantford.

Ottawa stranded runners in scoring position in the first and fifth innings but their best chance to score was the eighth, when the bases were loaded with two outs.

Ottawa centrefielder Kevin Dietrich grounded out to the second baseman to end that threat.

Ottawa starter Matt McGovern pitched his fifth straight nine-inning start, giving up only five earned runs in that stretch.

Saturday he allowed six hits and struck out seven Red Sox batters while not giving up any walks.

Brantford starter Chris Chavez put up three hits, three walks and three strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.

Game 2 of the series is Sunday night at 8 p.m. in Brantford, before the series comes back to Ottawa for Games 3 and 4 next weekend.
