Family and friends gathered on Tuesday to bid a tearful farewell to a 17-year-old boy who was killed when the car he was travelling in left the road and slammed into a sign post in Gatineau.

Michel Simard was remembered as a popular football player, who was supposed to graduate from Nicolas-Gatineau high school this year.

At his funeral, Simard's teammates wore their football jerseys and promised to play out the rest of the season in honour of their friend.

Simard was killed when the car he was a passenger in hydroplaned and collided with a sign post on Maloney Boulevard on Sept. 23. Two other teens were seriously injured in the collision.
