You grab the extra large coffee, and blast the stereo and air conditioning. But sometimes that’s not enough to keep awake when driving on the road.

An Ontario survey has revealed 30 per cent of men have fallen asleep at the wheel and 23 per cent of men admit to swerving off the road because of it. When it came to women, the numbers were cut in half.

The survey asked more than 1,000 people about dozing while driving.

The Canadian Automobile Association says it’s not surprising people are trying to push through fatigue.

“If you've already spent 10 hours in the car and you have about maybe 100 km or another hour to go to arrive to your destination., there's that belief where I'm feeling a little bit tired but I can still probably carry on,” said Korey Kennedy, the Canadian Automobile Association.

CAA says that caffeine is a major misconception as it wakes you up for a short period, then actually drains your energy level even more.

They advise to share driving duties if possible, schedule in longer stops and get a good night’s rest before.
