Extra security measures were taken in Ottawa while the search for the Wilno shooter was underway.
Dozens of heavily armed police officers were seen at a building at 190 O’Connor Street.
An employee there said she was told to lock down the ninth floor of the building around 10 a.m.
“It was a pretty scary situation and there are so many crazy people in this world that’s what’s so awful about it,” said Whitney Campbell. “You just never know when it’s going to be in your neighbourhood.”
Campbell said police told her the concern was for law firm Langevin Morris Smith inside.
“The policeman I spoke to in the lobby said it was the RCMP who alerted them and they were here immediately, most of been 10 police cars,” Campbell said.
Other witnesses told CTV the officers were carrying rifles. Paramedics were also on scene.
Heavily armed officers were also seen on Parliament Hill and in front of the Ottawa Courthouse.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Ottawa Police announced the lockdown was lifted.
“Those resources are being pulled back because we no longer have any safety concerns in the city of Ottawa,” said Staff Sgt. Carl Cartwright.
The shooting suspect was arrested around 2:30 p.m. in the community of Kinburn, in western Ottawa, which is about 130 kilometres away from Wilno.
