A 28-year-old Ottawa man is facing 35 charges after police seized a cache of dangerous weapons from a south Ottawa home, including four improvised explosive devices, two firearms and three silencers.

Ottawa police seized the weapons when the Guns and Gangs Unit raided a home in the 100 block of Finn Court, near Heron Road, on Thursday morning.

A stun gun, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and an assortment of firearm parts and accessories were also seized from the home.

Police say although the explosives weren't powerful enough to cause significant damage to a large area, the weapons are concerning.

"These were relatively small explosive type of things that he had created, so they weren't capable of destroying a large area type thing, but again the combination of all that was discovered is something a little more concerning," said Acting Insp. Don Sweet.

Saif Cathum, 28, is charged with dozens of offences, including possession of an explosive substance, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and careless storage of a firearm.
