An escaped murder convict who was on the loose for almost one week is back in custody after he was arrested about an hour north of Kingston, Ont.

Police say Andrew Wood, 42, was arrested in a vehicle driven by a woman on Bedford Road in South Frontenac Township at about 9:35 p.m. Thursday.

The 35-year-old female driver, who is from Kingston, was also arrested Thursday night. She faces various charges in connection with Wood's escape.

Wood escaped from the Frontenac Institution, a minimum security prison in Kingston, on Saturday.

Wood is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. He is now charged with escaping lawful custody.

Both are scheduled to appear in Kingston provincial court on Friday.
