The National Hockey League has suspended Ottawa Senators defenceman Eric Gybra for two games as punishment for a hit on Lars Eller of the Montreal Canadians.
Ellers was hit by Gryba as he took a pass at his own blueline during Game one of their Stanley Cup match up.
Many hockey pundits including Pierre McGuire of NBC Sports and Team 1200 stated Gybra's hit was a solid and legal hockey check. Replays show the Eller had just touched the puck as Gybra delivered the blow.
Eller laid on the ice bleeding. He was rushed to hospital suffering from a concussion, facial and dental fractures.
He was released today.
The hit has ignited a war of words between coaches and players.
Habs winger Brandon Prust took the taunting to a higher level calling Senator’s coach Paul Maclean a “bug-eyed fat walrus.”
Fans of both teams immediately pounced on the comment – tweeting mock pictures of MacLean next to the face of a walrus.
Game Two will be played tonight at the Bell Centre at 7pm.
Team 1200 will broadcast the game.
Game Three is scheduled for Sunday at Scotiabank Place.
