Ottawa firefighters say two people were safely evacuated after a garage fire inside a Manotick home on Wednesday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services say they received multiple 911 calls reporting a fire inside a bungalow shortly before 11:15 a.m. in the 5000 block of McLean Crescent.

Firefighters at the scene found the garage entirely engulfed in flames. Two elderly residents were evacuated with the help of a neighbour.

Fire crews conducted two full searches of the home and did not find other occupants. Firefighters were able to successfully contain the fire to the garage.

"The attic above the garage, as well as inside the walls of the garage, were both checked for any hot spots that could cause a flare up and none were found," the fire service said.

"The heavy amount of residual smoke that made its way into the home was ventilated out using high pressurized fans."

The fire was declared under control shortly before noon. The two residents will be displaced.

An Ottawa fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.
