Eight people injured after horse-drawn wagon went out of control in eastern Ont.
Eight people were injured after horses became out of control while a man was offering a horse-drawn wagon ride Thursday in eastern Ontario, according to the Brockville Police Service.
The eight people were taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition, though they sustained varying levels of injuries, police say.
Police say they received multiple calls at around 1:30 p.m. reporting a horse-drawn wagon had gone out of control in the area of Front Avenue in Brockville, Ont.
When police arrived at the scene, they found that there were multiple injuries. Officers note that the injured people received help from the Brockville Fire Department, Leeds & Grenville Paramedics and residents in the area.
Upon investigation, police found that a man was offering horse-drawn wagon rides along Front Avenue. The horses became “agitated” and started running out of control during one of the rides. That was when the wagon and the horses struck a parked vehicle before continuing to run westbound, throwing passengers to the ground out of the wagon.
The agitated horses kept running towards Stewart Boulevard, then down Eleanor Street into the woods, where they “became tangled in some trees, allowing control to be gained,” police add.
The horses were uninjured.
No charges were laid against the gentleman who was offering the rides, police say.
