Efforts to keep the Wakefield steam train on the tracks have hit a major hurdle after three Quebec municipalities that own the tracks rejected an offer from a new buyer.
The buyer wanted Gatineau, La Peche and Chelsea to repair the line and hoped to renegotiate a contract with the municipalities.
The train's current owner says he has two other offers but both would take the train outside the capital region.
The Wakefield steam train was taken off the tracks following a landslide earlier this season.
The train is a big money-maker for the region, bringing in about $8 million for the local economy.
