An educational assistant pleaded guilty Thursday to the sexual exploitation of a student she had sex with over a two year period.

In an agreed statement of facts, court heard Katherine Kitts and a male student had sex several times starting when he was 16.

It says they would have sex in her vehicle and that Kitts became clingy and made the victim feel guilty for having a girlfriend his own age.

The Crown read the boy’s victim impact statement in court while members of his family broke down in tears.

He wrote “My innocence and happiness was destroyed by Mrs. Kitts and all I am now is empty.”

He went on to say “I hope I can crawl out of the darkness and not pretend like I’m having fun but to really feel it” and “I want everyone to know that this hurts boys just as much as girls”

Kitts was supported in court by her ex-husband and sister-in-law.

Her lawyer Susan Chapman said Kitts is “extremely remorseful."

"This is a very big tragedy, she’s very sorry to the victim and the best way to evidence that is to plead guilty which is what she’s done today," Chapman said.

Kitts will undergo sexual behaviour and psychiatric evaluations before her sentencing on Aug. 22, 2016.

The Ottawa Carleton District School Board says it has started the process of terminating her employment.
