At a gala in Ottawa Friday night, prostate cancer research got a hefty cheque courtesy of motorcyclists across the country.

Lawrence Greenspon, the chair of the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation, accepted $1.6 million from Motorcycle Ride for Dad, an annual country-wide event that began in Ottawa 10 years ago.

This year's total came from city's across the country, anywhere between Victoria and St. John's.

Since the ride began, it has donated more than $5 million to prostate cancer awareness and research.
