Police have concluded that a Carleton University student who was behind the wheel in an early morning fatal crash in Ottawa in January was drunk at the time.

Police say a toxicology report concludes 20-year-old Mark MacDonald was intoxicated at the time of the deadly crash which claimed his life and the lives of two of his friends.

MacDonald's SUV went through a red light at the intersection of Heron Road and Riverside Drive when it hit an OC Transpo bus on Jan. 23.

Brianne Deschamps and Vanessa Crawford, both 19, were also killed in the crash.
