The driver charged in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured five cyclists, leaving at least one of them fighting for his life in hospital, will be back in court on Thursday.

Sommit Luangpakham, 45, was charged with five counts of failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm. More charges could be laid.

Luangpakham was remanded in custody after a brief court appearance on Monday. He turned himself in to police hours after the collision on March Road in Kanata on Sunday.

Robert Wein, 36, remains in critical condition after suffering severe brain trauma in the crash.

Fellow cyclists Mark White and Hilary McNamee are both in serious condition. The family of Rob Harland doesn't want his condition released.

Another cyclist, Cathy Anderson, remains in stable condition at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital.

The cyclists' injuries include concussions, broken bones and lacerations.

Famed cyclist Lance Armstrong sent his best wishes for recovery to the group on Tuesday in a video blog posted on his website.

He said cyclists always need to be aware of the risk involved with sharing the road.

"Anytime you have the interaction between bikes and cars, you never know what can happen," he said.
