A tractor trailer driver who believed he struck a deer along Highway 7 has come forward to say he may be the driver police are looking for after a teenager was killed on the side of the highway.

Ontario Provincial Police say a 25-year-old Belleville man came forward after police asked anyone driving the highway early Saturday morning to get in touch with investigators.

Police say evidence collected at the scene and independent witnesses confirm the driver's account that he thought he had hit a deer. No charges are pending.

Benjamin Rogers, 18, was struck and killed on the side of Highway 7, near Innisville, about an hour southwest of Ottawa, early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the highway at about 3:30 a.m. after someone spotted a body on the side of the road. Police believe Rogers was struck by a tractor trailer unit.

Rogers had just graduated from high school in Perth. Friends said he was walking home from a party.
